The Secret Initiative


The Secret Initiative is a youth program that is aimed to inspire and motivate students achieve academic excellence regardless of their socio-economic status or family background. Its mission is to have as many students excel and be among those 4000 plus beneficiaries every year sponsored by the government for their university education in Uganda. More than one thousand students have been reached through career exhibitions, class room presentations, distribution of books and radio broadcasts on Central Broadcasting Station (CBS FM) one of Uganda’s biggest radio station.

The Secret Initiative was started in July 2017 by Edmund Walusimbi after qualifying for government sponsorship on merit to pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical engineering at Makerere University. Upon completing his high school education, he decided to use the skills gained from the experience of working as a financial advisor in Jubilee Life Insurance Company Uganda during which he was the best in his training and selected by a youth counselor to join The Health and Development Communication Experts (HEADCOME). This was followed by him eventually joining The Mentorship Class 2017.The Mentorship Class (TMC) is a six-month youth program, that uses the transformative power of mentoring to groom a generation of revolutionary leaders and entrepreneurs.

The Secret Initiative is the concept behind the book entitled “THE SECRET TO GETTING GOVERNMENT SPONSORSHIP ON MERIT” that has been showcased in many schools. This book was endorsed by The Prime Minister of Buganda Kingdom Mr. Charles Peter Mayiga appreciating its aim to inspire students across vast geographical regions. It encompasses principles to do with hard work, proper planning and aspects concerning the law of attraction to enable a student realize that they have the power to improve on their academic performance. The Student Hub one of Uganda’s biggest online career platform also recognized this book for it’s strive to enable students excel.

Inspire youth globally to unravel their unique strength through self-awareness, career discovery and opportunity mapping.

    The objectives of The Secret Initiative are:

  • To inspire students to excel and qualify for government sponsorship on merit.
  • To provide students with relevant sources of career information.
  • To enable youth identify their individual strength and talents which they can use to build their competencies early in life.
  • To link companies carrying out Corporate Social Responsibility to several youth that can benefit from their support.

The Founder

Edmund Walusimbi


Edmund Walusimbi is the founder of The Secret Initiative, a youth motivational program that is aimed to inspire students achieve academic excellence regardless of their socio-economic status or family background.

He was part of The Mentorship Class, a six months’ youth training program that uses the transformative power of mentoring to groom a new generation of revolutionary leaders and entrepreneurs. In 2018 he was awarded a certificate of appreciation by The Prime Minister of Buganda Kingdom Mr. Charles Peter Mayiga for being a guest speaker in the class. This 2019 he was also awarded a certificate of appreciation for distinguished service by the US Ambassador to Uganda Deborah R. Malac for having served as The Public Relations and Communications Manager for The Mentorship Class 2019.

He is currently The President of The Mentorship Class Alumni Association and The Vice President Education for The Makerere Gavel Club an affiliate of Toastmasters International, a world leader in communication and leadership skills .This is the second official Gavel Club in Uganda. Edmund was part of the organizing team and Master of Ceremony for The Makerere University Careers Fair 2019 which was a partnership between MasterCard Foundation and The Makerere University Guidance and Counseling Department with various exhibitors from top companies. He has been able to present to thousands of students and also received a certificate of appreciation from The King’s College Budo Fraternity comprising of The Board of Governors with The Parents and Teachers Association for exhibiting at the Careers Day 2018.

Edmund runs this program to reach out and impact the lives of many students as he pursues his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering at Makerere University on government sponsorship.
